Happy Optimist loves cuddling 24/7 when he’s not being a murderous gangster ofc. Brooding Artist paints disturbing images that *no one but Lily understands* with his blood. And the tropes! Nerd Genius can read a book page in a few seconds. Other than that, their only personality traits are 1. We’ve got the nerd genius (Kai), the brave ringleader (Nox), the brooding artist (Jett), and the happy-go-lucky optimist (Ruin). On the romance side: It’s a reverse harem setup but unfortunately all the characters except maybe Lily are flat. And let’s definitely forget about how serious levels of violence are committed with many witnesses, and not only is Lily seemingly fine with this, but apparently the police are too. Let’s forget about how everyone at this college talks and behaves like they’re auditioning for Mean Girls. Let’s forget about the girl being in a mental hospital yet no one ever told her what she was committed for, which is ludicrous. It’s like fanfiction mixed with self-insert wish fulfillment. Add extra ew factor bc they watched her grow up from 6-13 but are immediately attracted to her now that she’s older. We’ve got such #deep lines as “My heart swelled almost as much as my dick” and “Art was pure feeling, and anyone who didn’t get that could suck my balls.” And ofc the typical YA male MCs with their white knighty insta-love for Lily, even though her only discernible personality traits are ‘frogs’ and ‘blonde’. “Dick-sickle”? “Douche-nozzle”? Except with a few sex scenes interspersed I have no idea why it’s not in the teen section.

And technically it is those things, but the execution is terrible. But then I remember it’s marketed as a supernatural ADULT romance, which I usually love. I’m hesitant to give this a bad rating because I wonder if I wasn’t the target audience. *The Stalking Dead is the first in a darkly humorous new paranormal romance series by bestselling author Eva Chase.Mild spoilers but not much worse than the blurb itself. But what if the only way to set things right is to get a little ghoulish? I promised myself I'd stick to the straight and narrow from here on. And that's not the only strangeness stirring inside me. In ways very different from how I felt as a kid. Maybe I'm still not all that sane either, because part of me finds them strangely appealing. So they'll bludgeon, maim, eviscerate-tear a strip of havoc right through this sleepy town. They're crude, criminally inclined, and more than a little unstable after ages trapped in afterlife limbo. The four "imaginary" friends who made my childhood bearable barge into my life in a very real way. Horrible enough that my little sister won't even speak to me.īut when I'm released back into a town determined to rub my unknown sins in my face, the past isn't the only thing that's haunting me. Thanks to a blank in my memory, I'm not sure what that thing was, but it was horrible enough to get me locked up in the mental ward for seven years.
