Like the author needed a reason for Jessie to be relatable, so she made the crew more ridiculous to compensate for her amazing good fortune in all the other areas. I do find her crew’s oddities funny and endearing, but it seems like that aspect has been pushed further and further over the top to try and balance how overpowered Jessie has become in every other aspect of her life.

Are they going to be making and enforcing laws for the supernatural community to keep the little people safe? Once they’ve been defeated, I still don’t really understand what their purpose will be. It’s to protect her from power-hungry mages. She keeps summoning all these powerful people to join her crew, but i keep wondering what their purpose or their mission is. One complaint I had from the beginning is that her team didn’t really seem to have a purpose. Are Jessie, her mate, and her powerful house not enough for you? Don’t worry about it! She’s got a team if super powerful people from across the world that dropped everything to be on her team for life. Don’t know what to wear? Don’t worry about it! The butler is an expert in high fashion and will dress you to look amazing! Don’t like planning meals and cooking? Don’t worry about it! The most powerful, sexy mate in the world loves cooking and can make 5 star worthy meals on the fly and loves doing it! Her butler is a close second! Want to be super powerful without the headache of managing all the responsibilities that come with it? Don’t worry about it! Her team will manage all the decision making and logistics so she can just focus on training and having amazing sex with her mate. Every part of her life that most women feel vulnerable about is catered to, without exception. The wish fulfillment is so over the top, it’s annoying. * she looks 40, but has the metabolism and health of a 20 year old in her prime. * the second most powerful mage “in the world” wants to be her mentor and help her because she’s “sensational, amazing, etc.” He literally doesn’t stop gushing about how awesome she is from the time he’s introduced in book 4

* the only female gargoyle “in the world” * mated to the most powerful shifter “in the world” * the richest woman “in the world” (160 billion dollars from who knows where) Now, because she moved into ivy house, she’s: Jessie was just a normal divorced 40 year old woman starting over without direction for her life a year ago. I usually love Breene’s series, but this one has been going too far off the rails for me to find enjoyment. So over the top, I can’t help rolling my eyes
